Politeness can be at times rude

Politeness is something which many Canadians arrogantly proclaim they have mastered and in fact plays a role in the way they identify themselves. How many times have you heard the old trope, rather stereotype, that Canadians are polite? There is an undeniable element, which I concede is true – on average people in Canada are rather more subtly polite, yet there is a paradox that must be pointed out. At times some individuals use their politeness as a means of rudeness.

This inherent paradox at times can be difficult to understand. The importance of the idea, one which plays an overall important role in the wider understanding of totality of thought. When someone says “sorry,” sometimes their tone can be that of rudeness. Almost as if they are saying excuse me to catch your attention in a particular situation.
